ACCOMODATION
VIKING SHEEP

Gerd the potterist and husband Olav welcome you to the farm.

Svalastog Farm lies in a small place called Grungedal in Vinje in Vest-Telemark. Although the village is small, its only the sky that puts the limitations for what you can do. If you are interested in fishing, powder or park riding, idyllic mountains in the summer as well as the winter, or if you just like to enjoy the peace that sorrounds you in a mountain village at about 500 moh. - then this might be the place for you.

Looking forward to meet you

A little about the farm

Svalastog has been in the family for more than 450 years. The name means a coaching inn for those travelling by foot and by horse. We still keep the tradition offering a shelter for travellers.

Svalastog is an old Telemark farm,  filled with stories to tell - from small scratchings on the walls keeping the evil away to buildings reminding us how they lived in ancient times. The oldest part of the the main building, where we live, originally was a small log cabin from the mid 15th century. Later the house has been expanded several times. The barn is a large log, with smaller rooms, all with a special purpose. In Eldhuset cooking, baking, brewing and slaughtering took place. The food and fine clothing were stored in Stabburet, also a traditional farm building. In addition the farm has also a small mill, blacksmith cabin and smoking log, for cold smoking of meat and fish.

Svalastog is an organic run farm, with Viking Sheeps which we keep for the delicious meat and lovely fur, both available for purchase on the farm. In addition we also have some Dexter cows and a couple of Scottish Highland Cattle.
